H Mart opening 3rd North Texas store. What’s the latest on Haltom City location?
The popular Asian superstore H Mart is opening its third location in North Texas next week, and a fourth one closer to Fort Worth is on the horizon.
H Mart, which opened its first store in 1982, now has over 97 locations across the country, including a store in Carrollton and one in Plano. Though H Mart specializes in Korean goods, the retailer sells groceries, prepared meals and housewares from Japan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
About 30% of its shoppers are not Asian, H Mart told The New York Times last year.
On Thursday, Oct. 23, the newest H Mart in the Metroplex opens at 10 a.m. at 2534 Royal Lane in northwest Dallas near Farmers Branch. The location, just off interstates 35E and 635, will be the closest H Mart yet to Fort Worth — until the Haltom City H Mart opens.
At the Dallas site, H Mart redeveloped a vacant building, according to information from the economic development office for the city.
The 70,000-square-foot grocery store is on the first floor, along with restaurant and retail space. The second floor will be devoted to office space. H Mart is investing over $28 million to redevelop the building. The renovations also include outdoor dining space, lighting and landscaping.
Dallas also provided approximately $4 million as an incentive for H Mart to develop the property on Royal Lane.
When will H Mart open in Haltom City?
Haltom City unveiled plans in 2023 for a $100 million retail development anchored by H Mart along Loop 820.
The 50-acre mixed-use development includes dozens of other stores, restaurants and industries, expected to create hundreds of new jobs. Haltom City leaders say the project is a major boon for the city, though some local Asian businesses worry about the new competition.
H Mart has said previously that the store at 3920 N.E. Loop 820 in Haltom City would open in “early 2026.”
The Star-Telegram asked a company spokesman this week for any more specific details on when the H Mart will open.
“We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the Haltom City store as soon as we have an official opening date confirmed,” the spokesperson said.
