A mobile midwifery clinic has expanded to Tarrant County, bringing low-cost prenatal and postpartum care to moms in need.

Abide Women’s Health Services’ mobile clinic is at the Center for Transforming Lives in Fort Worth, 3001 S. Riverside, and it is stationed there on Mondays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Each visit costs $35.

Abide also operates a Dallas clinic, and decided to open a clinic in Tarrant County after realizing that between 9% and 10% of clients were coming to the Dallas clinic from Tarrant County, said Jessica Dupree, the vice president of clinical operations and services.

“We saw those numbers and heard there wasn’t really a mobile alternative for maternal health care,” Dupree said. “When you see the need and you see the want, that’s where we come in.”

Mariah Kollie had her baby Ishmael in a home birth with Abide. She gave birth in a pool in her living room, and was supported by a midwife and a doula during labor.

“I came here and fell in love,” Kollie said. “This place is great.”

Kollie and her husband said they could turn to Abide with all of their questions, like how much Ishmael was supposed to eat. Kollie was in labor for 50 hours, and relied on Abide to bring her food and medicine when she was bed-ridden.

Kollie said going to Abide wasn’t a lesser alternative to going to the hospital. They have a different way of doing things than the hospital, she said.

“They’re just as knowledgeable, they’re just as equipped to do everything,” she said.

Mom Eva Govea went to Abide for her prenatal and postpartum care, and also met with a lactation consultant and was able to buy donor milk through Abide.

Abide Women’s Health Services will offer pregnancy testing, prenatal and postpartum care, and maternal resources at the Center for Transforming Lives campus.

Appointments for the mobile clinic can be made by calling 972-474-6311.
