Fort Worth firefighters investigate derailed train at rail yard on West Vickery
Fort Worth firefighters responded to a train derailment at the Davidson rail yard on West Vickery Boulevard Sunday morning when several railcars went off the tracks, officials said.
The derailment happened at the train yard at 4761 W. Vickery Blvd., and firefighters first arrived at about 10:40 a.m. to investigate any potentially hazardous materials inside the cars, according to the 911 call log.
The Fort Worth Fire Department said that nine cars derailed and two of them were leaking carbon dioxide.
A Fort Worth police spokesperson said the hazmat incident was isolated inside the train yard, but some nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as a precaution. Fire officials said they issued the shelter-in-place for a two-block radius, but there is not believed to be any danger to the public.
Parts of Vickery Boulevard were shut down. Officers were on scene to provide assistance with traffic, police said. Residents were asked to avoid the area.
No injuries were reported related to the derailment. Union Pacific owns the train and will be responsible for the cleanup.
