A limited run of TCU Horned Frogs-branded tequila is on Fort Worth liquor store shelves now — and if you hope to get your hands on a bottle, you might want to hurry.

The blanco tequila, produced by Fort Worth-based La Pulga Spirits, features a black label with the university’s frog mascot, an homage to TCU football’s blackout uniforms, and a black collector’s medallion.

One of La Pulga’s founders, Andrew De La Torre, a TCU alum, said he and his fellow cofounders were honored when the brand became the official tequila of TCU athletics. They released their first TCU-branded bottle last year in recognition of that partnership, and it sold out in days.

De La Torre said even he was surprised by the response to last year’s offering. The bottles sold so fast in some places that stores limited the number customers could purchase.

This year, La Pulga produced more to meet the demand. “We wanted to make sure there was enough to go around,” said De La Torre.

A portion of the proceeds from each bottle will go to Assist the Officer Fort Worth, an organization that provides financial support to Fort Worth police officers injured in the line of duty and the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

De La Torre said he and the company are gearing up for TCU football season, during which La Pulga tequila will be served in suites and clubs at Amon G. Carter Stadium as well as outside the stadium at tailgates.

Bottles of La Pulga’s Horned Frogs blanco are available at liquor stores across Fort Worth. As of Tuesday, Aug. 26, bottles were confirmed in stock at Tricks of the Trade (219 S. Main St.), Kings Liquor (2810 W. Berry St.) and Spec’s on South Hulen.
