Fire victims report theft, security concerns at Cooper apartments in Fort Worth
A week after the 6-alarm fire at The Cooper in Fort Worth, tenants are reporting that items are missing and may have been stolen from their apartments.
Some residents say they are concerned about the security of the complex and their belongings because they are unable to go into their apartments to retrieve their own possessions.
In units that are currently deemed unsafe, tenants were given specific days and time slots when someone could enter their apartments to retrieve personal items. The complex had construction workers and firefighters go into those apartments to retrieve items using a list provided by the residents.
A theft report was made to the Fort Worth Police Department on Wednesday by a tenant who said that a pair of stud earrings estimated at $900, a 14K yellow gold necklace valued at $1,000, and a gold college ring worth $900 were all missing from her apartment at The Cooper.
According to the report, the tenant said that the items were left on a side table on June 23 when the fire broke out. On June 30 the tenant discovered when she made a list for the construction workers of items that she would like from her apartment, the only things that she did not get back were her jewelry.
A Fort Worth police spokesperson said officers are placing extra patrols in the area around the complex on West Rosedale Street.
