Fire damages vacant historic church near Fort Worth Stockyards

Fort Worth firefighters responded to a fire Tuesday evening at a vacant church building near the Stockyards.

The fire at 307-309 W. Exchange Ave. was reported about 6:30 p.m and was quickly brought under control, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson said. No injuries were reported, and the damage was primarily to the exterior of the building.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Tarrant Appraisal District records show the most recent name of the building was the International Church of the Beloved, and list a previous owner of the property as the Baptist Church of the Open Doors.

According to city records, the Fort Worth City Council voted last year to add the property at 309 W. Exchange and part of the property at 307 W. Exchange to the Stockyards Historic District.

In 2021, nearby buildings were filmed as a backdrop for Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel TV series “1883” on Paramount+, according to Visit Fort Worth.

The owners of the property could not immediately be reached for comment about the fire.
