Temperatures expected to drop out of triple digits for rest of week
Forecasters are calling for highs of 96 on Wednesday and Thursday — an improvement over the last few days.
No 100-degree temperatures are predicted through Sunday.
A cold front blew through North Texas on Tuesday morning, bringing northerly winds and the hope of somewhat cooler weather.
But at 3:49 p.m. Tuesday, it was still 104 at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Both Fort Worth Alliance and the Naval Air Station recorded 103 degrees.
“There was cloud cover this morning and the wind was out of the north so it felt a little more comfortable early in the day,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jamie Gudmestad said. “It should be a little cooler the rest of the week.”
The cold front didn’t end DFW’s streak of dry days. It hasn’t rained at DFW Airport since July 9, the sixth-longest streak on record.
The record, 55 days without rain, was established from July 30 to Sept. 22, 2000, according to the weather service office in Fort Worth.
