A woman who died in an Eagle Mountain lake boating accident over the weekend was identified Tuesday by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office as Wendy Nugen, 46 of Fort Worth.

Divers found her body tangled in the wreckage of a speedboat at the bottom of the lake on Monday evening, authorities said.

Searchers had been looking for Nugen’s body since the 19-foot-long speedboat crashed against a wave and came apart Sunday night, said Capt. Cliff Swofford of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

A 49-year-old man who was also on the boat was in John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in stable condition, Swofford said.

Teams from parks and wildlife and the Tarrant Regional Water District are investigating the crash and death, he said.

The accident was reported shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday near the Lakeview Marina on the northern half of the lake. The lake is northwest of downtown Fort Worth.

Witnesses told a game warden that a speedboat with two people in it was traveling “real fast” when it hit a wave and went airborne, Swofford said.

“It was going so fast that when it hit the wave, it caught some air and the boat went straight up in the air,” Swofford said. “When it sank down, it just came apart, and the top separated from the bottom.”

The two parts of the boat were pulled out of the water about 6 p.m. Monday, he said.
