Woman with health conditions dies in Tarrant jail custody after DFW Airport arrest
A 57-year-old woman in the custody of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office died on April 19 at a Fort Worth hospital.
The inmate, who the sheriff’s office said had a history of longtime drug use and chronic health conditions, died at John Peter Smith Hospital. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Lizza Gadlin. Results of an autopsy to determine her cause and manner of death are pending.
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport police on April 15 arrested Gadlin on suspicion of theft of property between $100 and $750 after she was accused of stealing a suitcase, according to court records.
Gadlin was evaluated by MHMR and medical staff when she was booked, and she received care from JPS medical staff while she was in custody, the sheriff’s office said.
In-custody deaths are investigated and reviewed by Tarrant County jail staff, the Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, an outside law enforcement agency, JPS medical staff, the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
