Fort Worth leaders on March 11 authorized new and extended road closures across the city. Here’s what to know:

City hall first shut down a section of Old Denton Road between Westport Parkway and Day Road for construction in May 2024. Contractors expected to demolish an existing bridge, rebuild it, and widen a section of the road by late January. That month, city hall extended the road closure until March to accomodate “weather and unforeseen issues.” Tuesday evening, city leaders prolonged the closure another three months due to “redesign and schedule changes.” The stretch of Old Denton under repair runs roughly parallel to Interstate-35W, running by the Cinnamon Creek Ranch Event Center.

Fort Worth leaders voted to cordon off sections of Craig Street in and around the Handley neighborhood in October. South-Point Constructors, the contractor partnership heading up the multi-billion dollar Southeast Connector Project, is rebuilding the Craig St. bridge traversing Loop 820 and reworking the frontage roads on either side of the freeway. South-Point asked city hall to shut down two segments of Craig linking Loop 820 to nearby residential neighborhoods Haynie Street to the east and Putnam Street to the west allowing its crews to install fiber optic, water and sewer lines beneath the road, according to the city’s project summary. Having planned on finishing the job by late January, South-Point now says it needs until May 2025 “due to a change in project scoping.”

Another “design and schedule change” is delaying Southeast Connector work farther south. South-Point is routing telecom and water lines under segments of Eastland Street connecting Southeast Loop 820 to South Cravens Road to the east and Radford Road to the west. City hall authorized temporary closures along Eastland for the project in the fall; it voted Tuesday night to extend the closures until later this spring (May 7 for the eastern section of Eastland, April 15 for the western half).

Fort Worth plans to shut down a small chunk of Ray White Road near its intersection with Park Vista Boulevard from May 27 to Aug. 28. The city is reconstructing the roundabout conjoining the two roads as a part of its $22 million overhaul of Ray White, slated for completion by the summer of 2027. City hall Tuesday authorized another closure farther down the road near its intersection with Mirage Drive; work crews will block off a small sliver of Mirage from April 1 until July 25 for “storm drain, roadway reconstruction, and new roundabout improvements.”
