NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is celebrating his 53rd birthday with free ice cream.

Several of O’Neal’s Big Chicken restaurants are giving away free ice cream cones on Thursday for the occasion. Big Chicken’s Fort Worth restaurant is among the participating locations.

No purchase is necessary for the free cone and guests can pickup the freebie from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday at 9749 North Freeway, suite 101.

“Shaquille is all about bringing people together, having fun and making every moment big,” Big Chicken CEO Josh Halpern said in a news release. “He built this brand on the idea that the best times are spent around the table with great food and the people that we love.”

Fort Worth’s Big Chicken opened in September 2024 to a massive crowd and an appearance from O’Neal himself.

The first 34 fans, a reference to O’Neal’s jersey number, in line at the restaurant received free food and drinks for an entire year. That meant that some fans camped out overnight for the prize — including the first person in line, who parked outside the restaurant for two days.

Big Chicken mainly serves fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, popcorn chicken, and salads. Side items include macaroni and cheese, fries, and jalapeno coleslaw.

A couple of specialty items include “The Ultimate” fried chicken sandwich, which is topped with mac and cheese, crispy fried onions and roasted garlic barbecue aioli. Another is “Uncle Jerome’s Nashville Hot” fried chicken sandwich with lettuce, mayo and pickles.

Big Chicken is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at 9755 North Freeway, suite 101.
