The Electric Reliability Council of Texas said Monday that power grid conditions are expected to be normal during an upcoming period of bitterly cold weather coming to Dallas-Fort Worth and other parts of the state.

ERCOT, which operates the Texas power grid, said Monday that it had issued a weather watch for Feb. 19-21 during the extreme cold weather forecast. It said the low temperatures could result in higher electrical demand and the potential for lower reserves, but that grid conditions are expected to be normal during the cold weather, according to an ERCOT news release.

There “is no current expectation of an energy emergency,” the council said in a news release.

Temperatures are expected to range from 7 degrees to 18 degrees during the extreme cold weather, according to the National Weather Service. The wind chill effect will make it feel even colder, possibly as cold as -10 degrees, according to the weather service.
