A new caffeine fix? Caribou Coffee eyes Fort Worth location. Here’s what we know
North Texas coffee lovers are about to get a new go-to spot for their caffeine fix.
Caribou Coffee is expanding its footprint in Texas, with Fort Worth as the proposed location for its first standalone store.
According to a city filing, the coffee shop is planning to construct a new drive-thru only site with patio seating at 2816 Basswood Blvd.
Here’s what we know about the popular coffee chain.
What is Caribou Coffee?
Known for its handcrafted beverages, Caribou Coffee is the second-largest chain of premium coffee shops in the United States. The company was established in Minnesota in 1992 and has developed a solid reputation for sourcing coffee ethically, utilizing beans certified by the Rainforest Alliance to support fair trade and environmental sustainability.
The international investment corporation JAB Holding Co., which also owns popular food and beverage brands including Panera Bread and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, is the parent company of Caribou Coffee. Caribou Coffee is often compared to Starbucks but tries to distinguish itself with a more community-focused atmosphere.
What is the Caribou Coffee brand like?
According to its website, Caribou Coffee’s brand is centered around quality and community. It promotes a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, making its coffeehouses feel like neighborhood gathering spots rather than just quick-stop coffee shops.
From rich espresso drinks to flavorful cold brews and creative specialty drinks like the Turtle Mocha and Caramel High Rise, Caribou Coffee has a varied menu. In addition to its signature coffee drinks, the brand offers a variety of teas, blended beverages, breakfast items, and baked goods.
Unlike larger corporate coffee chains, Caribou Coffee says it emphasizes a more personal experience, often incorporating rustic, lodge-like designs in its stores to create a warm, inviting feel. Its branding reflects adventure, comfort and a connection to nature, reinforcing its Midwest roots.
