It’s been exactly one year since Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” began production in Fort Worth.

The Paramount+ series premiered on the streaming service in November 2024 and wrapped its 10-episode first season on Jan. 12. The drama is co-created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, who created the “Boomtown” Texas Monthly podcast that the show is based on.

Paramount announced that production was underway on “Landman” in Fort Worth on Feb. 6, 2024, according to a company press release. The series would go on to film in and around Cowtown until mid-June 2024.

The show was described in the initial press release as “a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs” that follows an “upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

The Billy Bob Thornton-led show proved to be a hit for Paramount, scoring 5.2 million total viewers on its Nov. 17 premiere.

Through its first four weeks, “Landman” scored 14.9 million Paramount+ viewers, which made it the top project ever to debut on the streaming service, according to Paramount.

With the show being a huge hit and fans clamoring for more, what’s the latest on a second season? The Star-Telegram has interviewed several of the stars of the series. Here are the clues they’ve revealed.

Will Landman get a second season? When will it air?

There’s no official word from Paramount yet on a second go-around, but much of the cast is hopeful for a renewal.

In conversation with the Star-Telegram, Ariana actress Paulina Chávez said her “fingers are crossed” on more “Landman.”

“I think there’s so much story to tell. Again, fingers crossed,” Chávez said. “Haven’t heard anything but I’m very excited. I mean, Billy Bob Thornton was nominated for a Golden Globe. So, come on, give us a second season.”

Speaking of Thornton, the Arkansas native told Entertainment Weekly that if the show was renewed, it would likely go before cameras in February or March 2025.

“I mean, we’ll see. It just depends on how the chips may fall, you never know in this business,” Thornton said. “But if we do it, I think [we’re] going to try to do it around that.”

As for potential story beats in season 2, Angela actress Ali Larter told Elle that she wants to continue exploring the relationship between her character and Thornton’s.

“I’ll take more scenes where we are in bed together, where we’re really talking,” Larter said. “We’re going to see, as the [next] season unfolds, that Angela’s going to be in a different place in her life again. I think that her priorities have changed, so you’ll see some of that unfolding.”

The biggest indicator of “Landman” season 2 may have come months before the first season premiered last year.

Speaking to talk show host Kelly Ripa on her podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera” last summer, Demi Moore said that “a lot more will be revealed in season 2” in regards to her character.

Moore plays Cami Miller, the wife to oil tycoon Monty Miller played by Jon Hamm, who is left in a questionable position as the first season came to a close. Moore didn’t reveal much else about season 2, only that her character is a loving mother.

“She’s devoted to her daughters,” Moore said. “Again, more will be revealed in season 2.”

Do Taylor Sheridan shows always get renewed?

Most of the time, yes.

Sheridan’s first show was “Yellowstone” in 2018 and went on for five seasons on the Paramount Network. Next up was “Mayor of Kingstown” for Paramount+ in 2021, which picked up a season 4 renewal late last year.

“Yellowstone” prequel “1883” also premiered in 2021 and was envisioned as a limited series, with no direct continuation planned.

“Tulsa King” premiered in 2022 and is on track to be renewed for seasons 3 and 4, according to Deadline. The Harrison Ford-starring “1923” also debuted in 2022 and will air its second season this year on Feb. 23.

Next up was “Lioness” in summer 2023, which was renewed and aired its second season in fall 2024.

Sheridan only produced “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” and did not create the 2023 series. The show is envisioned as an anthology series following a new historic lawman every season.

In total, the only Sheridan-created show to not yet receive another season is “Landman.”
