Behind the gates at Maverick Golf and Ranch Club, Fort Worth’s newest ultra-luxury community
Discovery Land Company, the developers of Maverick Golf and Ranch Club, a luxury community under construction in southwest Fort Worth, recently opened the gates for a preview of what is expected to be a marquee property — on par with the firm’s other local development, Vaquero Golf Club in Westlake.
The soon-to-be home to professional athletes, country musicians and others with deep pockets yearning for rural charm without sacrificing urban amenities, Maverick Golf and Ranch Club occupies 1,100 acres of the historic Veale Ranch on the border of Tarrant and Parker counties in southwest Fort Worth. When completed, there will be approximately 500 homes on lots ranging from cottage size to nearly 2 acres.
Helping lead the project for Discovery Land Company are Dallas natives Alex Flink and Steven Spieth, a former collegiate basketball player and the brother of pro golfer Jordan Spieth.
Maverick Golf and Ranch Club lots start at $1 million and go up to around $4 million. Buyers can choose their own architects and builders or work with ones selected by Discovery Land Company. In addition to the custom homes, there will be a number of turnkey “golf cottages” for sale, each around 2,000 square feet, that start at roughly $4 million apiece.
The community’s selling points include three golf courses — an 18-hole championship course, a 12-hole executive course and a 9-hole par-3 course — designed by renowned course architect Tom Fazio. As part of the first phase of construction, the par-3 course is expected to open next fall.
But while golf is the main attraction, it’s hardly the only one.
People travel long distances in search of unforgettable experiences, and Flink said Discovery Land Company’s mission is to provide those same kinds of experiences at home for residents of its communities.
While much of the development still looks like the pastureland it once was, Maverick Golf and Ranch Club’s Campsite area is open to buyers, even before their homes are ready.
The Campsite looks like something out of a Texas Hill Country travel guide. There’s a rustic barn with a bar, a snack kitchen and golf simulators for those who can’t wait for the courses to be ready. Next to that is a BBQ smokehouse, a double-decker treehouse bar and an outdoor seating area wrapping around a fire pit. The space is set back among the trees, far from nearby Interstate 20 and the skyline views of Fort Worth, so that you forget that downtown is only 15 miles away.
In the coming years, Maverick Golf and Ranch Club will be home to an athletic complex with a training center. This will be one of the draws, said Flink — who played baseball for Princeton University — for the high-caliber athletes who will call the community home.
“Instead of going somewhere else in the offseason to train, they’ll be able to stay here near their families,” Flink said.
In addition to the country club-like offerings, there will be a small grocery market, restaurants and even a western wear store for residents in Maverick Golf and Ranch Club.
Flink said Discovery Land Company is in talks to further develop the Veale Ranch property. Down the road, they may even partner with other developers to build commercial spaces closer to the interstate between Benbrook and Aledo.
