Godley school district will close for three days, from Jan. 29 through Jan. 31, because of “widespread flu and other illness among students and staff,” the district announced Jan. 29.

The district will reopen Monday, Feb. 3.

On Jan. 28, there were 650 students absent, and campuses across the district were reporting only about 70% to 80% of students were in seats, according to a post on the district’s website. The district also reported more than 60 staff and teacher absences. The district educates about 3,000 students in Tarrant and Johnson counties.

Flu activity is high across Texas. The most recent state data shows that emergency room visits for flu are up 33% compared to the previous week, and hospitalizations are up 17%. As of Jan. 18, there were nine influenza outbreaks across schools and other institutions, according to the state health department.
