The Fort Worth Zoo has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to further renovations on the zoo’s Texas Wild! habitat, zoo officials said Monday.

The grant will be used to upgrade the zoo’s Hall of Wonders exhibit, which is the center of conservation education at the zoo, officials said.

Texas Parks and Wildlife partnered with the zoo to develop the Hall of Wonders when it opened 25 years ago, according to a statement from zoo officials.

Renovations will focus on adapting the message in the Hall of Wonders to better work with children’s changed learning patterns in the digital age, officials said.

“It is imperative that the guiding principles of the Texas Wild! message — man’s hands-on conservation and management of wild things and wild places — is taught to our children and grandchildren,” said Ramona Bass, the chairperson of the zoo’s board of directors.

Zoo officials are in the early stages of planning for the hall’s renovation, according to the statement.
