8 puppies ‘abandoned, freezing and scared’ rescued from trash can at Fort Worth park
A volunteer with the Humane Society of North Texas rescued eight puppies he found abandoned in a trash can at a northwest Fort Worth park on New Year’s Day.
Matt McEntire was walking his dog in Crestwood Park when he “heard faint whimpers coming from a garbage can,” the Humane Society said in a news release. “When he looked inside, he was horrified to find eight tiny puppies — abandoned, freezing and scared. With no food, water or warmth, their survival was uncertain.”
McEntire, who the Humane Society said is one of its most dedicated volunteers, was determined to save all the puppies and made several trips to carry each one back to his home.
Six of the puppies will be ready to find their forever homes starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the “Puppypalooza Adoption Event” organized by the Humane Society.
“Lorcan, Keeva, Kian, Paddy, Dublin and O’Malley ... are all thriving and excited to meet their future families,” the Humane Society of North Texas said in a news release.
Community members can stop by PetSmart Montgomery Plaza, at 415 Carroll St. in Fort Worth, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday to meet the pups, along with several other puppies ready for adoption.
Two of the puppies, Guinness and Finnegan, are still in medical recovery and receiving the best care possible, the society said. They will not be at the event but will be ready for adoption soon, the release stated.
Donations to the Humane Society can be made at hsnt.org/donate. McEntire has volunteered for 1,300 hours over the past year, and he has offered to match every donation up to $1,300 — a dollar for every hour he’s worked to help pets in need, according to the release.
