How much would Kevin’s ‘Home Alone’ groceries cost at Fort Worth grocery stores in 2024?
Buying grocery store items for under $20 like Kevin McCallister in the 1990 Christmas classic “Home Alone” seems like a far-fetched idea these days.
Social media users are having that same revelation right now, as it’s the season of Christmas movie marathons.
“Kevin’s groceries on home alone rang up to $19.83! And that included toys, milk, juice and TV dinners. 1990 me please,” a Facebook user wrote.
A Threads user posted “I’m watching Home Alone (and) he goes to the store and gets two big bags of groceries, he doesn’t even spend 20 bucks on them, it’s just under $20, that would at least probably been 40 bucks now.”
With the cost of food at home in the United States up by 28% as of October, we decided to calculate just how much inflation has affected those same groceries Kevin bought in the movie.
Though occasionally you’ll see the cost of the name-brand item Kevin purchased in the film, we frequently stayed with less expensive, store-brand items.

Kevin’s groceries were a grand total of $19.83, with a dollar off coupon in the movie.
