American Airlines has indefinitely suspended flights from Miami to Haiti, after an initial suspension last month when one of the company’s planes was hit by gang gunfire.

The Fort Worth-based airline ran a daily flight from Miami until November, McClatchy newspaper the Miami Herald reported.

The only major U.S. airline to provide service out of Miami International Airport into Haiti said that it will evaluate a possible resumption of flights in late 2025, the Miami Herald reported.

American Airlines was one of three airlines whose planes were shot at while departing from Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti on Nov. 11.

The Federal Aviation Administration prohibited all U.S. airlines and other commercial operators from flying to Haiti for 30 days after the incident. Last month, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines all announced a suspension of their daily flights into Haiti.

“American has made the difficult decision to suspend daily service between Miami (MIA) and Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP). We are proud of our more than 50-year-commitment to Haiti and we will continue to monitor the situation, assessing safety, security, and customer demand, in evaluating a return of service,” an American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement.

JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines have not announced if they are extending the suspension.
