Fort Worth firefighters battle 2-alarm blaze at new location of HG Sply restaurant
Fort Worth firefighters worked to put out a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon at the new location of HG Sply restaurant at Alliance Town Center.
Firefighters reached HG Sply Co., located at 3351 Texas Sage Trail in north Fort Worth, around 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 15, a department spokesperson said.
From outside the restaurant, damage was not apparent except for a blackened chimney, where the Fire Department believes the fire started. Firefighters were seen on the roof, and clouds of smoke billowed from the back of the restaurant.
Employees told fire investigators that they smelled and saw smoke coming from the vents inside the restaurant.
When the fire alarms went off, about 50 employees and 35 customers safely evacuated from the business with no injuries reported. Officials said one firefighter was treated for a minor injury.
A spokesperson for HG Sply described it as a small fire and said that the restaurant is temporarily closed but will work to clean up and reopen quickly.
The restaurant’s newest location just opened on Monday, Nov. 11. HG Sply also has locations in Dallas, Trophy Club and west Fort Worth at 1621 River Run.
Fort Worth Fire Department investigators determined that the fire was accidental. The exact cause is under investigation.
Firefighters called in more units to help after the first units arrived. The incident commander called the second alarm because of the size of the commercial building and challenges with accessing the chimney area where the fire was, the department said. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.
The Fire Department asked residents to avoid the area while they worked.
