American Airlines is partnering with the TSA for an easier way to get through security
If you’re an American Airlines AAdvantage member, boarding your flight is about to get a lot easier.
The Fort Worth-based airline announced in a press release Thursday that it is partnering with the TSA to offer a new, streamlined security experience called TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.
TSA PreCheck Touchless ID allows eligible American Airlines AAdvantage members to walk through TSA security checkpoints “hands-fee” without having to to take out their IDs. The program’s technology uses face-matching technology that compares a customer’s image to their passport photo.
“We want to give our customers an easy experience while they move through every point of their travel journey, and the airport is a big part of that,” American Airlines Vice President of Customer Experience Kim Cisek said. “Introducing this option will help customers move more seamlessly from the airport lobby through TSA security to enjoy the next step in their travel.”
American Airlines has not yet released a start date or location for the launch of TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, but said more information will be released to AAdvantage members in the coming months.
American Airlines also recently added new “gate lice” technology to three airports: Albuquerque International Sunport in New Mexico, Tucson International Airport in Arizona and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Virginia. The technology will audibly inform the gate agent if a “gate lice” (or line cutter) has infested the boarding process.
How to sign up for TSA PreCheck Touchless ID
AAdvantage members will have to opt in to the service before traveling.
Travelers who sign up will need to provide their:
AAdvantage number
Valid U.S. passport information
Known Traveler Number (KTN)
Members only have to opt in for this once a year.
