Kroger will be giving away free trees in Arlington on Nov. 1 in celebration of Texas Arbor Day.

The giveaway will be held from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Kroger Marketplace at 5101 W. Sublett Road.

130 sweetbay magnolia and chaste trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Chaste trees can grow around 15 feet tall, while sweetbay magnolias typically reach heights between 10 and 20 feet.

Electricity provider Oncor and The Arbor Day Foundation are partnering with Kroger for the giveaway, which aims to expand Arlington’s tree canopy.

“Properly chosen and sited, a single tree can help a homeowner save 20% on energy costs,” said Debbie Dennis, an Oncor senior vice president.

Oncor recommends planting trees away from power lines.
