Fort Worth man accused of murder in friend’s death

A 36-year-old man was arrested Monday in the fatal shooting of a longtime friend inside a north Fort Worth home Saturday.

Jaime Ramirez had claimed he shot Julian Gamaliel Torrez, 38, in self-defense.

But homicide Detective Jeremy Rhoden said that further investigation uncovered contradictory information and that an arrest warrant was obtained for Ramirez on a murder count.

Ramirez was arrested at his home Monday and remained in the Mansfield Jail on Tuesday, with bail set at $100,000. The shooting occurred inside Ramirez’s home Saturday in the 3200 block of Northwest 29th Street.

Rhoden said Ramirez and Torrez were friends since childhood but had an argument, the details of which remain under investigation.

Ramirez told police that he ordered Torrez out of the house but that Torrez returned and forced his way in, leading Ramirez to shoot him.

Torrez died from a gunshot wound to the head.
