Dice game led to fatal shooting in west Fort Worth, police say

A 24-year-old Fort Worth man was charged with murder Tuesday, accused of fatally shooting another man over a disagreement about a dice game.

Eric Dane King Jr. surrendered to police Thursday.

Patrol officers responding to a shooting shortly before 11:30 p.m. July 21 found Anthony Armstead, 35, wounded in a parking lot in the 5700 block of Wellesley Avenue near Horne Street.

He was taken to a Fort Worth hospital and was pronounced dead early the next morning from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Homicide Detective E. Pate, who worked the case with Detective Jerry Cedillo, said several people who knew both the victim and the suspect were hanging out in the parking lot when the shooting took place.

Pate said King and Armstead grew up in the same neighborhood and had reportedly disagreed over a dice game several days earlier.

King remained in the Mansfield Jail on Tuesday, awaiting transfer to the Tarrant County Jail. Bail is set at $50,000, jail records show.

Tarrant County court records show that he has convictions for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
