Summer’s almost over. Make the most of it with these Fort Worth activities
There are officially 31 days until summer ends.
Soon enough, you’ll be missing these long, sunlit days, so it only makes sense to take advantage of them.
From festivals to free activities, this short list gives you a good idea of how you can spend your last month of summertime in Fort Worth.
Bulls, Bands, and Barrels: One last rodeo of the summer
Let’s kick this list off with some classic Cowtown fun. Bulls, Bands and Barrels comes to Cowtown Coliseum in the Fort Worth Stockyards on Aug. 23 and 24.
“BBB features competitive bull riding, barrel racing and bullfighting which are considered the most exciting rodeo events today.” according to the BBB website.
Bull riding some of the “toughest bulls” is a crowd favorite. Barrel racing features all women who speed through the course going 90 mph. This year BBB has country singers: Josh Meloy with Ty Myers on Friday, and Sam Barber with Clayton Mullen on Saturday.
Tickets range in price from $42 to $163, depending where you choose to sit. You can buy single day passes for Friday and Saturday, or purchase a two-day pass. Events start at 7 p.m. both days at Cowtown Coliseum: 121 E Exchange Ave.
Sonidos del Summer: Free Concert Series
Summer wouldn’t be complete without good food and even better live cumbia music. The Selena Forever Tribute Band is headlining the free Sonidos del Summer music festival on Sept. 7 at Marine Park.
You can bring your cooler, blankets, lawn chairs and pets along with your family for a summer night. Admission is free and all events start at 5 p.m. at Marine Park: 303 NW 20th St.
Marine Park is also a great place to bring your kids to enjoy a water park and pool. Admission is $5 for children (17 years and younger) and $6 for adults (18 years and older). Starting Sept. 2, the pool will only be open on weekends.
SuperMotocross: World Championship playoffs
For those who want to melt all day in the heat for one last time, Texas Motor Speedway is hosting the SuperMotocross world championship playoffs on Sept. 14.
“SuperMotocross is an off-road motorcycle racing championship that combines the technical skill of stadium racing with the speed and endurance of outdoor racing,” according to the SMX website. The playoffs will feature the best of the best motorcyclists.
There are options to camp the whole weekend as well as purchase one-day passes. If you want to make it a weekend experience, you get access to Friday’s practice before the race on Saturday. Tickets range from $45 to $85 depending on the seats you chose. Camping packages range from $375 to $550.
All gates open on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Racing begins at 2 p.m. Texas Motor Speedway is located at 3545 Lone Star Cir. General parking is free.
Tequila-rita: Tequila and Margarita Festival
Fort Worth Botanic Garden gets it. The Tequila and Margarita festival is back for a second year with live music, and of course, margaritas. You get one ticket that includes unlimited beverages and food from local vendors.
“A dedicated stage in the Grove will welcome guests with both DJ Alexander Mejia and a performance by local band Quimikoz Del Son,” according to FWBG. As the tequila flows, so will the dance floor.
On Sept. 21. the event will go from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are for adults only for $45 ($35 for FWBG members). Entrance for the event will be at the FWBG west gate located at 3408 West Fwy. Parking is free; however, spots may fill up.
Fort Worth mural tour: exploring the city’s culture
Load the kids up in the car and follow Autumn Rose Reo’s Fort Worth Mural tour.
“Fort Worth is home to one of the largest cultural districts in the nation and more than 25 museums. And now, several notable murals are stepping into the limelight. Discover artistic masterpieces on the walls of familiar Fort Worth hot spots, all by simply driving by.” says Reo.
Not only is this a free activity, but it’s also an air-conditioned activity. Unless you want to load the family up in your convertible or topless Jeep.
Grab a good meal or a yummy drink and take an hour to sight see our city’s unique street art.
