Dallas-Fort Worth is in for a scorcher. Heat index could reach 108 degrees this week
Dallas-Fort Worth is under a heat advisory for Tuesday, as heat index values could reach 108 degrees.
The heat advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday for much of North and Central Texas, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Air temperatures could reach 103 degrees on Tuesday, while heat index values could touch 108 degrees. The heat index is the “feels like” temperature that is calculated by air temperature and either dew point or relative humidity.
The NWS recommends the following to avoid heat-related illnesses:
- Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles.
- Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty.
- Spend time in the air conditioning.
- Take frequent rest breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
Warm week ahead for Dallas-Fort Worth
After sweltering temperatures on Tuesday, the week doesn’t get much cooler in North Texas.
The NWS is forecasting a high of 101 degrees on Wednesday, with heat index values up to 106 degrees. Thursday will be right around 101 degrees, as heat index values could reach 108 degrees.
Friday will have a high of 102 degrees and a heat index of 108 degrees, followed by 104 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Heat index values for Saturday and Sunday could reach up to 109 degrees.
The North Texas region has recorded 13 days over 100 degrees this year thus far. That overall number will likely increase this week.
