A woman was critically injured in a house fire in southeast Fort Worth on Sunday night.

The Fort Worth Fire Department received multiple calls about the residential structure fire in the 4700 block of Eastland Street shortly after midnight, according to a news release.

Crews were notified that a resident was believed to be trapped inside the burning home. Firefighters “immediately searched the home and rescued an elderly and disabled woman on a bedroom floor,” the department said in the release.

Firefighters used a CYANOKIT to treat the woman, while other crews extinguished the fire. “Thankfully, firefighters were able to get the victim breathing on her own and she was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition,” the department said.

A second resident was able to escape the house safely and was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
