Avoid this rail crossing on a major north Fort Worth road during Monday morning rush hour
Drivers in far north Fort Worth will need to make alternative plans Monday if their commute includes West Bonds Ranch Road.
Fort Worth-based BNSF Railway is closing the crossing just west of U.S. 287 from 6 a.m. to around 1 p.m. to make temporary repairs, according to a newsletter sent by Fort Worth City council member Alan Blaylock.
The best alternatives to getting around the closure are to take Wagley Roberson Road south to East Bailey Boswell Road, or take Willow Springs Road north to Blue Mound Road West.
Both of those streets are two-lane country roads that aren’t built to handle a lot of traffic, said Rusty Fuller, president of the North Fort Worth Alliance.
Fuller and other advocates in far north Fort Worth have pushed the city to add more east-west and north-south thoroughfares to alleviate traffic in one of the fastest growing parts of the city.
The Texas Department of Transportation received $17.2 million from the federal government in June 2023 to build a bridge over the crossing, however, that project won’t be complete until 2028.
Roughly 18,000 vehicles use Bonds Ranch Road every day, according to the TxDOT.
