Northwest ISD elementary school in Fort Worth mourns sudden death of its principal
A principal at a far north Fort Worth elementary school died after a medical emergency on Sunday, the Northwest school district announced.
Leigh Anne Romer was principal for 12 years at J.C. Thompson Elementary in Sendera Ranch, near Haslet, according to a message from Superintendent Mark Foust posted on the school’s Facebook page.
“I speak on behalf of all Northwest ISD’s leadership team when I say Dr. Romer will forever be remembered as someone who cared about her students, teachers and community with her whole heart,” he stated.
Romer was known for her commitment to students and staff. Her tenure was marked by a focus on fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment, earning the school the affectionate titles of “the place to be” and “the best school in the universe.”
Counseling support will be made available on campus for students from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The district encourages parents to discuss Romer’s death with their children in a manner that best suits their family’s needs.
Many parents shared their thoughts by commenting on the post.
“She was truly a beautiful person,” one wrote. “She will be greatly missed. My daughter will always remember how kind and great she was to her.”
Romer is survived by her husband, Paul, and their two children.
