4 school kids injured Wednesday in 2 separate accidents in Fort Worth, officials say
A child was injured during car drop-off at a Fort Worth elementary school Wednesday morning, and three other children were injured in an accident involving a school bus and a bicyclist, officials said.
According to police, a 6- or 7-year-old child was hit by a vehicle near J.T. Stevens Elementary School at 6161 Wrigley Way. The child’s injuries were minor, and the driver remained at the scene.
MedStar was initially asked to respond, but the request was later canceled while the ambulance was on the way to the school, according to Matt Zavadsky, a spokesperson for the ambulance service.
Principal Drew Farr told J.T. Stevens’ families in a letter that a student was injured during the morning car drop-off, but didn’t give specific details about the incident.
“We immediately contacted emergency personnel, who swiftly arrived and helped the student,” Farr said in the letter, which was shared with the Star-Telegram. “No other students or staff were injured.”
Farr invited anyone with questions to reach out to the school’s main office.
Another accident was reported Wednesday morning near Bray Birch Drive and Alta Vista Road in far north Fort Worth. According to officials, a school bus struck an 11-year-old child who was riding a bike.
The bicyclist sustained minor injuries, along with two children who bumped their heads when the bus stopped suddenly, Zavadsky said. MedStar treated the children at the scene but didn’t transport them to a hospital.
It’s not clear which district the bus was from. A spokesperson from Fort Worth Independent School District told the Star-Telegram that the bus was not from Fort Worth ISD.
