Fort Worth man seeks financial help after injured by stray bullet on New Year’s Eve
A Fort Worth man is seeking financial assistance after being injured by a stray bullet late New Year’s Eve.
Federico Perez, 41, and his family were gathered just before midnight outside of his north Fort Worth home located off the 2800 block of Hanna Avenue and West Loraine Street, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
Just minutes before midnight, gunfire was heard in Perez’s neighborhood and he was hit in his leg by a falling bullet, according to a police report.
Perez told WFAA in Spanish that the bullet came from above. He also said he doesn’t know where exactly the stray bullet came from and Fort Worth police continue to investigate the case.
Police have yet to identify who fired the gunshot and haven’t confirmed if the bullet that hit Perez came from celebratory gunfire, according to WFAA.
Perez’s family called 911 and an ambulance transported him to a local hospital.
He organized a GoFundMe to pay for his medical expenses and recovery.
“I am a father of 3 back in my home country and I am their support,” said Perez in the GoFundMe. “I never thought this would happen to me and I now have to recover from this accident.”
Of a $25,000 goal, $245 had been raised as of Friday.
