Why hasn’t Fort Worth lit up its new city hall building to celebrate the Texas Rangers?
It’s been lit up purple for TCU games. It’s been red, white and blue for the Fourth of July. But this week, the new Fort Worth city hall tower hasn’t been lit up to support the Texas Rangers on their historic postseason run.
The Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 to clinch the team’s first World Series title in franchise history. Throughout the five games of the series, including Wednesday’s big win, the top of city hall has glowed in plain white rather than the team’s blue and red.
Other landmarks, including the Empire State Building, celebrated the Rangers with their colors.

While the team plays in Arlington, both Mayor Mattie Parker and the city’s official account on the social media platform X put out messages in support of the team.
The city gets a lot of requests for changing the color of the lights atop the former Pier One tower, but it has to balance those against the needs of the construction crew during the $230 million renovation, city spokesperson Reyne Telles said.

The Star-Telegram asked the city Thursday about the lights. Telles responded that lights at the top of the 20-story tower will be lit up red and blue Thursday to celebrate the Rangers’ victory.
City employees are also encouraged to wear Rangers gear to work Friday, and are allowed to use paid-time-off to attend the victory parade in Arlington after getting clearance from their supervisors, according to Telles.
The Empire State Building in New York lit up its spire in red, white, and blue, and the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada changed to look like a baseball with the team’s logo on it.
Both posted pictures on the social media platform X in support of the Rangers’ win.
The Rangers’ World Series victory parade is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Friday in the Arlington Entertainment District.
