5 fun places to entertain the kids (and grown ups, too) while escaping North Texas heat
The first day of fall is a month away, but it may as well be a year away for North Texans feeling the persistent triple-digit heat.
There are several family-friendly water parks in North Texas, but there are also indoor options the whole family can enjoy while staying out of the sun.
Check out these three family-friendly activities to escape the excessive heat wave.
Arcades in Fort Worth
Arcades are back and the Fort Worth area has new places to enjoy both classic and modern games in an environment fit for all ages.
Cidercade, located at 1813 W. Bowie St., has unlimited game play for $12 — no coins or tokens required.
Menu items include artisan pizzas, salads and desserts. Cidercade is cashless and becomes a 21-and-older adult arcade at 8 p.m.
Free Play, with locations in Fort Worth and Arlington, is another kid-friendly arcade that has unlimited play for an $11.99 entry fee. Food is also available at Free Play, and menu items include handcrafted pizzas.
Free Play requires all guests under 13 to be accompanied by an adult. From Sunday to Thursday, visitors must be 18 or older to remain in Free Play after 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, it’s 21 and older to stay after 9 p.m.
Go bowling
Bowling is an indoor sport that offers fun for the whole family, and there are unique options in the Fort Worth area that have something for everyone.
Pinstripes, located at 5001 Trailhead Bend Way, has bowling and bocce. With a menu that includes options for kids, this could be a way to get the family active while staying out of the heat.
Main Event is another family-friendly bowling option that offers several more experiences from laser tag to escape rooms. There are Main Event locations in Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and Lewisville.
Immersive experiences
Sandbox VR, 2956 Crockett St. in Fort Worth, offers immersive experiences that take you out of this world — and this heat.
Using virtual reality technology, Sandbox VR lets guests feel like they’re in a video game or movie.
Guests must be 4 feet or taller and be able to wear at least 20 pounds of support gear for up to an hour.
VR games are also offered at Main Event locations.
Meow Wolf in Grapevine is another immersive experience for all ages to enjoy with no VR headset required.
The recently opened Meow Wolf is an immersive art exhibition that aims to open visitors to “portals of possibility.”
