Man arrested in fatal shooting in Fort Worth

A man was arrested Sunday, accused of opening fire at a family gathering, killing one person and wounding two others, police said.

Edguardo Pesina, 21, was being held Monday in the Mansfield jail with bail set at $200,000. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman, Pesina had gone to a gathering in the 2500 block of Shropshire Street at the invitation of a family member.

While there, the family member got into a verbal disagreement with another party-goer. As a result, both the family member and Pesina were asked to leave, Loughman said.

Witnesses told police that Pesina circled the area several times before opening fire when the victims tried to leave shortly before 1:30 a.m. Loughman said Pesina is believed to have acted alone.

Three men in their 20s were taken by ambulance to to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

One later died at the hospital. His identity had not yet been released as of late Monday morning.

Another man was shot in the leg and had minor injuries, Zavadsky said. The third was transported in serious condition.

Loughman said police found Pesina at his residence after officer’s received information on the scene as to where he might be located.

A semi-automatic handgun believed used in the shooting has been recovered, he said.
