A Fort Worth clinic is closing multiple specialty care departments, including those that care for patients with cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

USMD Fort Worth Clearfork Clinic, at 5450 Clearfork Main St., is closing its medical oncology, rheumatology and general surgery services, according to a spokesperson for USMD’s parent company, WellMed Medical Management. Other services, including imaging, primary care, urology and cardiology, will still be available at the Clearfork location, said spokeswoman Lia Medrano in an emailed statement.

A different spokesperson for WellMed Medical Management, which acquired USMD in 2016, declined to answer questions about why the closure decision was made, when the closure would be effective, and how many patients or staff members were affected.

“USMD recently made a decision to refocus our mission on providing high-quality care in the communities we serve. Unfortunately this means that we will be transitioning out of some specialty medicine practices over the next several weeks,” spokesman Daniel Calderon said in an emailed statement. “The continuity of care for our patients is a top priority, and we will be communicating directly with patients who may be affected so they will have the information and support they need to continue their care. We want to thank the providers and staff for their exceptional care and commitment to patients.”

The company announced the opening of the clinic in October 2017, and advertised more than 30 providers across 10 specialties, including family medicine, internal medicine, geriatric medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, cardiology, rheumatology, general surgery and podiatry, according to a news release.

Both WellMed Medical Management and USMD are part of Optum, which in turn is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
