Fort Worth plugs up holes with its IT system after weekend data breach
Fort Worth’s IT systems were back to normal Monday after a Friday data breach leaked roughly 180 gigabytes of city work orders and police reports.
That’s a little more than the storage capacity of a standard smart phone.
The city has a “high level of confidence” it figured out how a hacker group accessed the city’s systems, and has plugged the whole, according to a post on the city’s website.
There’s is no indication sensitive data was released, and the city still has access to all its computer networks, according to the post.
Unlike the hack of the city of Dallas nearly two months ago, the group attacking Fort Worth did not demand a ransom, according to the post.
The hacker group, SiegedSec, wrote in a social media post Friday it was targeting governments in Texas for the state’s policy on gender affirming health care.
Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 18 on June 2, which bans doctors from providing gender affirming care, including surgery and the prescription of puberty blockers, to a person under 18.
