Fort Worth to host health event near neighborhood with state’s lowest life expectancy

Distric 8 councilmember Chris Nettles is organizing a health fair Saturday to promote resources and highlight disparities in his east Fort Worth district.

Nettles represents the ZIP code 76104, which a 2019 UT Southwestern study revealed had the lowest life expectancy in Texas.

Follow up reporting from the Star-Telegram revealed disparities in the amount of access residents have to high quality food and medical resources.

The fair will offer health screenings, music, food, and dance. There will be medical professionals available with specialties in pediatrics, internal medicine, psychology, family care, neuropathy & pain, breast cancer, kidney and renal Medicine, according to a city press release.

The event will take place from from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the McDonald YMCA at 2701 Moresby St.
