Watch: Man arrested after video threat to shoot people in downtown Fort Worth, police say
A man was arrested after posting a video that went viral on social media in which he threatened to shoot multiple people in downtown Fort Worth on May 7, the Fort Worth Police Department announced Friday.
The man also showed a shotgun and made threats toward police, according to the video reshared by multiple users on social media.
“Multiple units from our department investigated swiftly and obtained an arrest warrant for a person of interest,” police wrote in Facebook post Friday evening.
The suspect was located and arrested, according to police.
Police did not release the suspect’s name in their statement, but jail records identify him as Zyshon Murphy, 22, of Fort Worth. Murphy was booked Friday night on a felony count of terroristic threat placing the public or a group in fear, according to jail records.
Murphy was being held Saturday in the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $10,000. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
The investigation is ongoing. Police said they are not releasing other details at this time “to preserve the integrity of the investigation.”
The original video may no longer be online, but several social media users screenrecorded it and shared it with warnings to other residents to be careful.
The man who made the profanity-laden video posted it on Snapchat with text reading, “May 7 3:00PM IS YALL DEATH DAY SO DONT BE IN DOWNTOWN. YALL GOIN HAVE 2 KILL ME CUZ YALL GETTING KILLED FOR SHURE.”
In the video, the man is heard saying he planned to shoot random, innocent people because “I hate all of you. I want you all dead and I’m going to make sure that happens this Sunday.”
