Lane closures begin on I-35W in Fort Worth

Stretches of Interstate 35W in Fort Worth should be avoided this weekend, unless you like sitting in stop-and-go traffic and looking at orange barricades.

Road construction projects were scheduled to begin Friday night and continue through next week as part of the North Tarrant Express I-35W project.

9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday

▪ All lanes of eastbound Spur 280 at I-35W will be closed and traffic will be directed on southbound I-35W to Rosedale Street.

▪ Northbound and southbound I-35W will be reduced to one lane each at Spur 280.

▪ The on-ramp from Lancaster Avenue to U.S. 287 will be closed and traffic will be directed to Interstate 30.

9 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday

▪ All northbound lanes of I-35W at Meacham Boulevard will be closed.

▪ The connector from northbound I-35W to westbound Loop 820 will be closed.

▪ The on-ramp from McMillan Parkway to I-35W will be closed and traffic will be directed to U.S. 377.

9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through July 31

▪ The I-35W northbound exit ramp to Pharr Street will be closed and traffic will be directed to the Northside Drive/Yucca Avenue exit.

Monday through Aug. 1

▪ The I-35W southbound exit ramp to Northeast 28th St. will be closed and traffic will be directed to the Northside Drive/Yucca Avenue exit.

▪ All lanes of the southbound I-35W frontage road from Dewey Street to Northeast 28th will be closed and traffic will be directed to Deen Road.

The project

The North Tarrant Express I-35W project is a $1.4 billion effort to modernize the corridor from I-30 near downtown Fort Worth to just north of U.S. 287 near Heritage Trace Parkway. The stretch of freeway is one of the most congested in Texas.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
