Fiery crash near Fort Worth-Arlington border kills SUV driver
An SUV driver was killed Tuesday afternoon in a fiery head-on collision with a pickup on East Lancaster Avenue near the Arlington border, officials said.
The pickup driver was pinned inside the cab until firefighters extricated her. She was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition, said officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman.
A girl who was a passenger in the pickup was found standing outside the vehicle when first responders arrived, said Lt. Kyle Falkner, a Fire Department spokesman.
She was taken to JPS by an Arlington ambulance, he said. She was reported to be in stable condition Tuesday evening, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.
The wreck occurred about 4:20 p.m. near the Green Oaks Boulevard overpass where East Lancaster turns into West Division Street in Arlington.
Witnesses told officers that the westbound pickup veered into eastbound lanes and hit the oncoming SUV.
The first firefighters on the scene found the SUV on fire and saw the driver inside while putting it out. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Falkner said. The Tarrant County medical examiner will identify the driver once the family has been notified.
