Fort Worth extends curfew for 30 days while council members deliberate
The Fort Worth City Council voted Tuesday to keep curfew rules for minors for only a month.
The city is nearing the end of a three-year curfew that prohibits children 17 and younger from being in public places from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from midnight to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
City Council members said they wanted a short extension in order to notify residents about the rule and to do more research on whether the curfew is beneficial.
The ordinance was set to expire Jan. 14 without action from the council. It was first adopted in 1994.
There were 48 curfew filings the past two years, with the majority going to 15- and 16-year-olds in the north side, south side, south Fort Worth and far north Fort Worth, according to a city report.
