From torn wrapping paper, food packaging and fallen Christmas needles, there’s plenty to cleanup after the holidays are over. Fort Worth has laid out several ways to get rid of holiday waste with services such as recycling and bulk collection.

Here’s how to get rid of holiday garbage in Fort Worth:
What garbage goes in the regular brown cart?
The brown cart is what most Fort Worth residents use for curbside garbage pickup. Residents are allowed to set out two additonal bags of garbage on their first pickup day after the holiday.
- Ornaments, ribbons and bows.
- Colored tissue paper and all wrapping paper.
- Bubble wrap and greeting cards with glitter and decorations.
- Indoor and outdoor lights.
What garbage goes in the blue recycling cart?
The city picks up recycling the same time as regular brown cart garbage pickup.
- Flattened cardboard boxes.
- Paper greeting cards and metal or aluminum pie plates.
- Glass and plastic bottles, and food packages.
What garbage goes out for bulk and yard collection?
- Bulk waste collection occurs once a month for residents looking to get rid of large items.
- Yard collection is weekly and is for grass clippings, brush and any yard waste.
- Residents can get rid of artificial Christmas trees and live trees. All decorations and lights must be removed from the live tree for yard collection.
What garbage should be taken to drop-off stations?
Fort Worth has four drop-off stations across the city for residents to dispose of all kinds of different wastes. Residents need to bring a valid drivers license or recent utility bill to use a drop-off station.
The drop-off stations will close on Dec. 25 and 26, but reopen on Dec. 27.
- Large cardboard boxes too big for a recycle cart.
- Batteries, electronics and bicycles.
- Any type of Christmas tree.
