A mother and two children were struck by an SUV in front of Comanche Springs Elementary School on Thursday morning, officials said.

A spokesperson from MedStar said the three patients were transported to hospitals. Two of them received minor injuries and the other was in critical condition as of 11:30 a.m.

According to reporting by KDFW Channel 4, the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. when children were arriving for school and it was still partially dark outside. The driver of the SUV was turning and did not see the family when they started across the street. The crossing guard was helping at an adjacent crosswalk at the time.

The SUV driver is cooperating with police. It’s not clear if the driver will face charges.

MedStar urges drivers and pedestrians to use caution around school zones.

Pedestrians should only cross at crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street. Drivers should be alert, have their phone put away and watch out for children.

Comanche Springs Elementary School is in northwest Fort Worth and is part of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district.
