Fort Worth’s Panther Island Ice rink is closing, but one is opening in the Stockyards

The water district started hosting the rink in 2013, but will shift management to a private group, according to a press release.

Those looking to ice skate at the rink on Panther Island will have to look elsewhere after the Tarrant Regional Water District announced it would not open the rink this winter.

The decision is part of a push by the district to use its recreational events to highlight the region’s water resources. The district also quit hosting Oktoberfest.

“For the last nine years, we were able to bring a beautiful winter wonderland dream to Fort Worth and it was a great run,” said water district general manager Dan Buhman in a news release.

The Stockyards will debut a rink on Nov. 25, said Ethan Cartwright, Stockyards’ vice president of marketing and tourism.

The rink will be on the lawn outside the Livestock Exchange Building at 131 E. Exchange Ave. and will be open through the end of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on Feb. 5, 2023, Cartwright said.
