Fort Worth artists sought to help with Near Southside projects. Here’s how to apply.
Fort Worth artists will have a chance to work with award-winning public artists on two underpass improvement projects, one at South Main Street and Insterstate 30 and another at Rosedale Street and Instate 35.
Both the South Main and Rosedale underpasses serve as gateways into the Near Southside neighborhood.
The goal of the improvement projects will be to enhance underpass lighting and create a safe pathway for pedestrians and cyclists through engaging art, according to a Near Southside Inc. press release.
The projects will be done through a mentorship program organized by Fort Worth Public Art. Two local artists will be chosen to work alongside the award-winning public artists commissioned for the project.
An honorarium of $1,000 will be given to the selected applicants.
Who can apply?
Artists who are 18 years or older by Nov. 6 can apply to this mentorship. Applicants should have ties to Fort Worth’s Near Southside or Historic Southside neighborhoods and have a committment to public art.
How long will it last?
The project is expected to last a minimum of six months with irregular contact and project-related meetings throughout that time.
When can I apply?
Applications to apply are now open.
The deadline to apply to the mentorship program ends Nov. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Finalist interviews are expected to begin early December and the mentorship will begin in January.
An application information meeting will take place via Zoom on Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Contact Michelle Cortez Gonzales, Public Art Project Manager, at mgonzales@artsfortworth.org for the meeting link.
