In downtown Fort Worth 9/11 memorial, firefighters, other responders climb tower stairs
About 130 people, many of them firefighters in heavy turnout gear, on Sunday climbed stairs in the Bank of America Tower in downtown Fort Worth in homage to emergency responders who were at the scenes of terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
North Texas emergency workers gathered for the climb at the building in the 300 block Commerce Street on the 21st anniversary of the attacks in which hijacked jetliners struck the World Trade Center in New York, crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.
Firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, special agents and security guards climbed four times the stairs of the Bank of America Tower from the ground floor to the 27th floor.
The number of total floors is just shy of the 110-story climb to the top of the World Trade Center.
The Fort Worth climbers wore a lanyard with the photograph and name of a 9/11 emergency responder.
City Center Fort Worth hosted the Memorial Tower Climb.
