Queen Elizabeth II visited Dallas in May 1991. Here are Star-Telegram photos of that day

Queen Elizabeth II made her first trip to Texas in May 1991, a whirlwind three-day tour with stops in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston.

In the Big D, the British monarch dined on locally made wild boar sausage, veal with black beans and a banana taco, and then launched into a short speech that told of a Texan father rebuking his son for ungraciously asking a stranger his home state. “Never do that, son,” the queen told 290 guests at Fair Park’s Hall of State. “If a man’s from Texas, he’ll tell you. If he’s not, why embarrass him by asking?”

The visit was the same day Kay Granger was sworn in as Fort Worth’s new mayor. Granger — now a congresswoman — presented the queen with a Texas wildflower tea set and told her, “I hope on your next trip to Texas, you take the time to visit Fort Worth, also.”

Here are a few of the images captured that day by Star-Telegram photographers.
