Toddler attacked by iguana at Fort Worth aquarium, parents say

Painesville Police Department

A toddler was taken to a local hospital after being bitten by an iguana at a Fort Worth aquarium, his parents said on social media.

The child’s parents said they were dropping by SeaQuest at Ridgmar Mall for a few minutes and supervising the little boy when the iguana “jumped from a rock and latched onto his arm,” on Sunday.

The child’s mother said the boy “didn’t agitate the animal,” and that her son had to get six stitches after the incident.

“A short trip to sea quest in Fort Worth ended in disaster when our lil dude was bitten by a vicious iguana,” Cole Gordon wrote on a Facebook review. “Please don’t bring your children here. The staff is very irresponsible as-well. They are more concerned about the animal then our wounded child.”

According to KRLD NewsRadio, the aquarium said in a statement that it was assessing the situation and “attempting to resolve it.”

In a Facebook update Wednesday, the child’s mother said he was “doing great,” and “like nothing has happened.”

“Like most kids he loves animals so that’s why I chose to keep this so public, and as a parent the thought of it happening to someone’s little one scares me,” she wrote. “I know a lot of people on here that either has taken their kids or thought about taking their kids to sea quest so I wanted y’all to be aware of this before you take them there. Abel is the strongest little boy I know and I’m sooo glad he’s taking it well and isn’t traumatized but please please don’t take your babies there.”

The child’s mother added that SeaQuest had reached out to the family Tuesday.
