North Texas is getting a splash of creativity and color thanks to Meow Wolf, an interactive art exhibit, coming to Grapevine Mills.

In 2023, New Mexico-based Meow Wolf will welcome the public to its newest art installation in the Grapevine Mills mall. The arts and entertainment company creates immersive exhibits.

The company was created in 2008 as an art collective made up of graphic designers, artists, sculptors and painters. The first permanent exhibit opened in Santa Fe in 2016, titled “House of Eternal Return.”

Since then, two more permanent exhibits have opened in 2021: “Omega Mart” in Las Vegas and “Convergence Station” in Denver. The Grapevine location will be the company’s fourth permanent exhibit.

But it won’t be the company’s only Texas venture. A fifth permanent exhibit is planned for Houston’s Fifth Ward in 2024.

“The Meow Wolf story universe is expanding, and Texas holds the keys to our next chapters,” said Jose Tolosa, CEO of Meow Wolf in a press release. “Opening a permanent exhibition in the largest and one of the most diverse states in the country has been on Meow Wolf’s radar for years, and we are excited to be formally underway.”

The company cited the new locations as “portals” opening up in Texas, referencing how visitors will be transported to magical worlds created by each exhibit. Texas was chosen for its diverse population in the Houston area and Grapevine, because of the company’s love of the mall experience.

Meow Wolf plans to work with local and emerging artist in Texas and will start recruiting staff this summer. Interested applicants can visit Meow Wolf’s social media channels to learn more or visit its website.

The name of the Grapevine exhibit will be announced at a later date.
